You may have seen him play at one of Philly's many music venues - from the Grape Room (then the Grape Street Pub), Tin Angel, Underground Arts, Dawson Street Pub, World Cafe Live... or at one of the Philadelphia-area's local parks like Gorgas Park in Roxborough, Pastorius Park in Chestnut Hill, Anson B. Nixon in Kennett Square. Ben Arnold's been around on the scene for a few decades making great music solo and with his own band, as well as with US Rails, 4-Way Street, Pistol for Ringo, and more.
The song "Astral Freak" caught the attention of many listeners when it was released on his album "Almost Speechless." It's been a crowd favorite over the years and Ben and the band still play it in some of their live shows today. I first heard it on a compilation put together by Marilyn Russell, a local DJ and champion of local Philly music over the years.
Check out this French television airing of Ben Arnold's Astral Freak from 1995 in Paris. What a throwback!
There are two shows left in Ben Arnold's summer residency on Tuesdays in July at Kennett Flash in Kennett Square - July 24 & July 31st. Plus he has other local shows scheduled in the greater Philadelphia area (July 24th at Pastorius Park in Chestnut Hill is another) this summer - so check one out soon.
