Remember when we didn't even have to use area codes? We could just pick up the land line and dial our friends up the street? Then area codes became a must...AND now look at us! WE're getting a THIRD Philly area code this weekend. Kinda wish the new area code was sexier than 445... I fee like 669 would have been cooler.
Saturday will be the first day that the region’s third area code, 445, can be placed into service as combinations for 215 and 267 phone numbers are “hitting the point of exhaustion,” said Nils Hagen-Frederiksen, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
The new overlay will affect any numbers coming out of Philadelphia, as well as Bucks, Montgomery, Lehigh and Berks Counties moving forward.
