Trocadero Owner Releases Official Statement On Closing

Last week Philly music lovers everywhere were shocked and saddened to hear the rumor that our beloved historic music venue The Trocadero might be closing. Well, today we have received confirmation from the venue's owner.

PhillyVoice just shared a statement from Joanna Pang who has not only confirmed the news, but also given more of a timeline on the events. She says the venue will close in May and ahead of it's closure there will be some big shows scheduled that have yet to be announced. So at least it will go out with a bang, right?

Take a look at the statement:

“The Troc has been an amazing experience, and we’re proud of what we have done for the last 20 years — not only with regard to the local and national music scenes, but beyond, too.

“We were an independent room that could embrace and pursue every aspect of multiculturalism, from drag performers to zombie proms to LGBTQ events. We were dedicated to welcoming all artistic scenes, and I’m proud of that. But it’s time."

“The landscape of the business has changed in the last five years. It’s harder now to be an independently run venue — it’s a different world. There are bigger rooms run by bigger concert corporations.”

Sad to see the venue go, but we're looking forward to seeing what shows will be announced before we say goodbye!
